In 1960 Japanese artist Kumi #Sugai moved to the affluent Left Bank of Paris and bought a #Porsche. The car became much more than a reflection of his newfound success: ‘He experienced a sensation of huge risk driving very fast on the motorway, which started to change his work.’

Kumi Sugai (1919-1996), Parking dans Forêt au Soleil (Parking in the Forest in the Sunshine), 1966. Oil on canvas, 169 x 130 cm. Estimate: £70,000-120,000. This lot is offered in Through a Collector’s Eye: The Kenzo Kagami Collection of Post-War #JapaneseArt on 11 October 2016 at Christie’s in London, King Street.
