Our New York 20th Century Week continues today with our Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale, including this painting of a secluded garden by Georges Lemmen – Coin de Jardin, 1892.
Formed entirely of distinct dots of colour, it represents a practice known as ‘divisionism’, which emerged in the 1880s with neo-Impressionism. Divisionists produced paintings formed of pure dabs of primary colour which, when viewed together, appeared to ‘merge’ to form a complete image.
