TU-ChristiesThis painting – set to be sold in our Modern British & Irish Art Evening Sale on 23 November - was once owned by Robert Harley, a close friend of Ian Fleming. Harling was a strong supporter of Modern British art and his home was supposedly crammed with pictures by the likes of Ravilious and Bawden. He is known as quite a character who, when once asked if James Bond was based on him, he replied: “Oh, Fleming and I got up to a few pranks together”.
Eric Ravilious, Buoys and Grappling Hook, 1933. Estimate GBP 100,000 - GBP 150,000. This lot is offered in our Modern British & Irish Art Evening Sale on 23 November 2016, London, King Street.
