Last Monday, another season of the (still) immensely popular Reality TV series, The Bachelor, came to an end. The 20th season culminated with a proposal, when Ben Higgins proposed to Lauren Bushnell with a Neil Lane engagement ring - the official jewelry designer of The Bachelor franchise.
The art deco ring has a central radiant-cut diamond surrounded by over 240 round and baguette-cut diamonds, with a total diamond weight of approximately 4.25 carats.
In an interview with Style Caster, Neil Lane spoke about what it takes to design a Bachelor ring. As it turns out, every season, he designs six rings, and donates one to the show’s winning couple. However, the pair has to give it back if they don’t last more than two years. Lane’s favorite ring shape is the cushion-cut diamond, and he confesses a partiality for a central diamond with diamonds around it, and a band. Lane, as he says, does not “make a ring that can fit on your head or double up as a pendant.”
Neil Lane has been a favorite among Hollywood brides-to-be, and has designed engagement rings for Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Hudson and Emily Blunt. At the Oscars and other red-carpet events, his jewelry has been worn by Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Garner, Sofia Vergara and others.
