Zimbabwe’s diamond sector continues to tread firmly after posting a further 300 000 carats on its summed diamond production for the first four months of the year to reach 1.3 million carats this month.
The industry is showing great signs of recovery picking from the slumped figures of just 961 000 carats in 2016, to 1.3 million carats within the first five months of 2018, reflecting 80 percent of the full year production figure for 2017.
The Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) which assumed operations of all diamond mining activities in the Marange fields is hoping to recover the sector which suffered years of pillage of the precious resource and reach peak levels which topped 12 million carats in 2012.
