Hiroshima or simple aesthetics? (Image: Mikado767)
Here’s a cute little mystery for all of you watch lovers (or just mystery lovers): why is that every time you see a watch in an advertisement, it is set to 10:10?
According to The Sun, which delved into the subject, there’s a simple enough reason for it: it all comes down to the aesthetics, as the “positioning of the hands at 10:10 best frames the brand name, which usually appears on the top half of the watch face”. Also, the arrangement is symmetrical and pleasing to the eye.
Another, slightly more far-fetched theory, claims that because the Hiroshima atomic bomb exploded at 10:10, clocks have been stopped at this time to acknowledge that. Another theory claims that the arrangement creates a chalice V symbol. We’d rather go with the less stressed out aesthetics theory, but you’re certainly free to pick your own!
