The Dublin-based accessory maker Love and Robots ("Made with love. Designed by robots", as their tagline reads) is making a bit of a splash with a new jewelry line inspired by a very natural element – the wind.
Called “Windswept”, the line allows L&R costumers to create their own piece of customized jewelry using virtual modeling and 3D printing. All you have to do is enter the L&R Studio website, choose a style based on a piece of ribbon or cloth blowing in the wind for either a pendant or a pair of earrings, then enter any location in the world, and any date from 1970 forwards.
The L&R software then researches historical weather data, and “blows the wind” according to the place and time across the ribbon or cloth.
According to Gizmag.com, you can freeze the visualization at any point, then order the jewelry based on that wind-inspired design. The jewelry is then 3D-printed and sent to you. You can also rotate the view 360 degrees to see the final product before ordering it.
L&R offers pieces in sterling silver, gold-plated, rose gold-plated or 14k gold, ranging in prices from $168.50 to $1,327.
