Torn between wearing a glittering bracelet or a more practical timepiece? Fear not: This season’s latest jewelry trend has you covered. Jewelers from Cartier to Chanel to Vacheron Constantin have created beguiling “secret watches”—part bracelet, part timepiece hidden behind diamonds, rubies, or sterling silver.
For the September Style issue, AD commissioned artist Rajiv Surendra (whom you may recognize from a certain early-aughts teen movie that made Regina George a household name) to create illustrations whose deeply saturated hues highlight the timepieces’ brilliant gemstones. From a white-gold-and-diamond Bulgari serpenti cuff with sapphire eyes to a geometric, Art Deco–inspired alligator strap Hermès piece to a Breguet watch whose dial is hidden by a white-gold cameo flower, these timepieces are sure to please and intrigue even the most discerning aesthete.
