It’s Official: The Corset Is the Hottest Street Style Trend in Milan

Vogue

It was just last season at the Fall 2016 shows that the corset reappeared, inspiring plenty of oohs and ahhs as it came down the runway. But for all the buzz surrounding the centuries-old accessory, certainly more than one person was left wondering if it could translate to real life. As celebrities such as Gigi Hadid and Kim Kardashian West embraced their own versions of the waist-whittling look this summer, it was clear that the corset wasn’t going to be a passing fad. And now in Milan, where the corset gained momentum in the expert hands of Miuccia Prada last season, it’s become a fixture in the wardrobes of editors, stylists, and It girls. For one show attendee who sported a printed shirtdress, panda-shaped purse, and doorknocker earrings, a white-laced corset was another playful touch to her outfit. Stylists Kate Foley and Natasha Goldenberg both layered Prada corsets over matching green floral-printed dresses, while British Vogue’s Fashion Features Director Sarah Harris put a masculine spin on the traditionally feminine underpinning. Elevating her laid-back uniform of menswear-inspired shirts, tailored pants, and sleek slides, Harris wrapped the bodice around a casual button-down. With three days left of Milan Fashion Week, we’re sure we haven’t seen the last of this statement piece.
