There’s Something Fishy About Milan’s Latest Trend

There’s Something Fishy About Milan’s Latest Trend

Vogue

Over the past three weeks, there have been plenty of surprises on the runway, from eye-popping neons in New York and London to the “fashionization” of Crocs at Christopher Kane, but nothing was quite as unlikely as the jewelry story on the runway in Milan today. At Sportmax and Versace, models took to the catwalk wearing single earrings depicting oversize fish. The displays of marine life were more stylized than biologically accurate—at Sportmax, silver dangle earrings featured the outline of a fishy silhouette while Versace sent out koi-like creatures in a curved position that wrapped around a piece of grosgrain ribbon. Of course, this is far from the first time we’ve seen fish trending of late. Two seasons ago at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson turned gilded fish into a necklace worn by Jamie Bochert. For Spring 2014, Kenzo went so far as to dedicate an entire collection to the scaly creatures in an activist move protesting depleting fish populations. (“No fish, no nothing,” read a particularly direct sweater.) At Gucci, Alessandro Michele is also into the creatures, using them as motifs on gowns and bags alike. Let’s just say serving fish has never been so mainstream.
