9 Things to Know About Givenchy’s Spring 2017 Show

Vogue

Riccardo Tisci presented his Spring 2017 Givenchy collection at Paris Fashion Week today to an audience filled with his muses and friends. Kim Kardashian West, Courtney Love, and Gigi Hadid were among the stars in the front row, while even more Givenchy fans were on the runway tonight, including Lea T, Mariacarla Boscono, and Joan Smalls. As for the clothes, we’ll leave the dissecting of those agate pendants and flirty dot dresses for Nicole Phelps’s review. Until that’s up, find minute-by-minute updates from Paris below.   1. The invitation for the Spring 2017 show featured a photograph of a model in a dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy in 1952.   2. Givenchy staged its show in the plaza in front of Paris’s Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, setting the scene with balloon light fixtures and a metallic runway. To compensate for cold evening temperatures, guests were given silver mylar wraps to stay warm.   3. Riccardo Tisci’s celebrity friends turned out in pairs to support him: There was Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain, Kim Kardashian West and Kourtney Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik.   4. The show opened with a series of gemstone-printed dresses layered over blush slips. The gem motif continued afterward, with large slices of geodes hanging from pendant necklaces.   5. From there, groups of dot and striped dresses took the runway, each in a rainbow of secondary colors and mashed-up prints.   6. Tisci also sent out a number of white-collared shirtdresses—something of a departure for the soigné designer.   7. Many of the suiting looks, like those worn by Joan Smalls and Lea T., evoked the spirit of Tisci’s Fall 2016 couture collection with oversize pockets at the hips and a wide-leg trouser.   8. Every look was paired with muted pastel socks and patent mules.   9. The hair and makeup, too, was similar to the Couture showing, with models sporting low, slick chignons by Guido Palau and radiant natural makeup by Pat McGrath.
