“I am a jewelry sinkhole,” says Rashida Jones. “I have lost so much jewelry over the course of my life that I want things you don’t have to take off every night. I like the idea of being the kind of person who sleeps in their jewelry.” And with that goal in mind, is it any wonder that Jones’s collection of fine jewelry with Los Angeles–based e-commerce platform Iconery, launching today, is mostly made up of softly rounded edges? Sleep-ability factor aside, the actress found inspiration for the assortment of coordinating earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces in 14-karat yellow gold and the occasional black diamond in everything from the recent presidential debates and Frank Sinatra to ’90s street style. “Recently I’ve been feeling pretty traumatized,” says Jones of her decision to use both the Egyptian ankh and Middle Eastern hamsa in the line. “They are symbols of power and luck and unity. The world feels a bit divided at the moment, and I felt like this was a nice, apolitical way to say something without saying something.” Plus, it all comes down to how you wear it. “I think the way you style jewelry is really personal,” Jones says. “There’s something inherently intimate in the way it sits on your body. It’s a cool, subtle expression of who you are.” And to that end, the daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton drew on personal memories and style when designing the pieces, using her father’s pinky ring as a model for her Square Ring. “He has a ring with a crest on it that Frank Sinatra gave him, which is the same shape as this,” says Jones. “I’ve always loved a man’s pinky ring, so this is a sleeker, feminine version of that.” The Mariner’s Chain Choker and Bracelet, meanwhile, are fashioned after the jewelry she used to buy from vendors on Canal Street. A particular favorite are the hip-hop-influenced Oversized Square Hoops. “Hoops have been like the story of my life,” says Jones. “I’ve been wearing hoop earrings since high school. There was a moment in my life when I felt like I couldn’t wear hoops anymore because I had to be more serious, but I cannot not have hoops in my life.” And now so can you.
