Finally! A Cute, New Maternity Collection You Can Work Out In

While the athleisure trend has been permeating the fashion industry for a few years now (athleisure is even one of the Merriam-Webster dictionary’s Words We’re Watching) and designers from Prabal Gurung to Tory Burch have all put their stamp on it, Hatch Collection and Bandier are perhaps the first to bring seriously stylish options to the maternity market. Starting today, four silhouettes, including a pair of capri pants, leggings, a sports bra, and a tank, are all available to women who don’t want to stop working out (or caring about what they wear while they work out) simply because they are expecting a baby. “The community of women who are championing fitness and health during pregnancy has multiplied tremendously over the last few years, and for these women, motherhood is just one area of their very busy lives,” says Ariane Goldman, the CEO of Hatch Collection. “I noticed there weren’t many workoutwear options speaking to them, so I created reliables, essentials that would grow with them during that time.” All of the items are very much in keeping with the wider Hatch belief that these pieces should surpass immediate trends and remain loyal go-tos even after your baby arrives: Don’t expect startling colors or look-at-me prints that could distort as the body changes. The lineup is decidedly minimalist, in a chic, urban sense. Everything is either black or heather gray, with small blush darts to break things up on shoulder straps and at the knees. “I asked myself, ‘What did I search for unsuccessfully during pregnancy? What did I crave and never find?’ ” says Goldman, “When it comes down to it, the bump is the issue, and the boobs are the issue, and so we thought about support and comfort with every choice.” That means the bra length and length of the inseam rise (the part that sits below the belly but also supports it) in each pant has been adjusted to support growth, and softer elastic has been inserted under the cleavage to prevent chafing. “It’s less about filling a gap and more about providing pieces that offer women the best possible fit,” explains Goldman. “Pieces that make it easier to take a class rather than become an obstacle in terms of comfort.” Among the coterie of multitasking mothers who have been shot for the lookbook are Hill House Home’s Nell Diamond, Scout The City blogger Sai De Silva, and yogi Kristin McGee. All are entrepreneurs who highlight Goldman’s core belief that “women everywhere are embracing wellness and fitness. It’s not a small subsection of the population. It’s not a minority. It’s most of us. We wanted to celebrate the women brave enough to care for themselves through every moment.” Available from today on hatchcollection.com and bandier.com; prices start at $68.
