Solange Knowles Shows How Stealthy Glamour Is Done at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala

Solange Knowles has always had an expert eye for color, and her ability to mix clashing prints with a light hand has made for many a glorious fashion moment over the years. The singer has been turning toward a quieter palette in recent months, however, and the shimmering metallic look she wore for this evening’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund gala was a good example of a subtle shift in her style. “I’ve actually been keeping this outfit in my mental Rolodex of things to wear in the future since the Met Gala in May,” said Knowles of her silver Off-White suit. “I’m so happy I finally found the right occasion to wear it.” Naturally Knowles adjusted the tailored blazer ever so slightly from the original way it was shown on the runway for Fall, modifying what was an asymmetrical cut to balance both shoulders. In addition to mismatched statement earrings, she framed her face with a series of simple clips, and the overall effect was not unlike that of the spellbinding portrait for A Seat at the Table, her new album. “I’m really into head adornments right now,” she said. “And I have Minnie Riperton and Lena Horne to thank for the inspiration.” Those who saw the singer’s first-ever appearance on SNL this past Saturday will recognize that throwback crowning glory idea of beauty, though tonight’s version was perhaps easier to re-create at home than the ethereal beaded halo she wore for her recent performance. That said, her stealthy glamorous approach to red carpet dressing tonight stood out head and shoulders above the crowd even still.
