Gucci Mane Wears Suffragist White to Promote Presidential-Election Turn-Out

Rapper Gucci Mane—né Radric Davis—may still be on probation, and so unable to cast a ballot in today’s heated presidential election, but that hardly deterred the Woptober star from making a rather impassioned (and chic!) stomp for voter turnout in Florida last night. Suited up in his starkest of “suffragette white” separates—a nod to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s historic nomination—the 36-year-old rap star strode onstage at Florida Memorial University to beseech the college-aged audience to get out to the polls. With his layers upon layers of diamond necklaces twinkling, Davis affixed the oversize lenses of his bedazzled glasses onto the crowd, and reminded them that voting matters, and that casting a vote can have a ripple effect through communities. “Make a vote to stop all this police brutality,” said Mane. “We need to make a vote to stop all this mass incarceration. All of these issues are not just personal to your families—they impact me. I wish I could vote.” Citing his recent prison stint, and current probation, Davis earnestly asked the crowd to use their voices where he couldn’t. It was a thoughtful—and notably well-appointed—reminder of the continued impact that today’s election has on our country, and that each vote really does count.
