The Angelina Effect Lives On! Why Celebrities Can’t Get Enough of the High-Slit Dress

Vogue

If one trend emerged at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, it was the rise of the thigh-high slit. Forget décolletage or bared midriffs, last night was all about legs: Karlie Kloss, Hailey Baldwin, and Nicola Peltz all showed off toned thighs and sculpted calves in dresses that were daring without verging into scandalous territory. The focus was less on revealing the most skin, more about a demure flirtiness: Call it the Angelina effect. The star’s Atelier Versace dress for the 2012 Academy Awards is still providing a generation with the definitive leg-baring moment—and the template to provide their personal twists on the look. There were plenty of variations on the trend; Karlie Kloss wore her floral-printed, long-sleeved Prabal Gurung number with a single earring and slicked-back hair, while Hailey Baldwin’s tangerine and turquoise fringed Baja East dress called for oversize gold hoops. Nicola Peltz brought back printed hosiery in a classic black gown by Alexander Wang, and Vanessa Moody went for a vintage-inspired tulle veil by Gigi Burris Millinery with her metallic Adam Selman slip dress. No matter the styling, the understated sexiness shone through—and with a seemingly infinite number of options available, this is one look destined to prove just as appealing once it makes its way onto the streets.
