Ten Thousand Things Pops Up on Ludlow Street—Just in Time for the Holidays

This past summer, Ten Thousand Things closed its store in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood, and founders David Rees and Ron Anderson have been working out of their new studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, ever since. But because they’ve amassed such a dedicated cult following—and because jewelry is such a personal investment—they jumped at the chance to open a pop-up on Ludlow Street before the holidays. Their friends Dana Foley and Andrea Linett just opened a vintage pop-up next door and clued Rees and Anderson in on the cozy, light-filled store. “We’ve made spaces for 21 years, so it was a nice opportunity to design a new one with less pressure,” Rees explained. “It’s inherently temporary, so you can just have fun.” The partners spent last weekend building the shop themselves, complete with wooden and glass jewelry cases, pale wood wall coverings, exposed bulbs, and rustic tree stumps in the windows. Inside the cases are the newest Ten Thousand Things pieces, which feature lots of opals—white, black, and turquoise—and adhere to the label’s minimal, organic ethos. “Baby hoops” with tiny diamonds will no doubt be a hit with holiday shoppers, ditto the blue opal necklace with long, handmade links and the Tahitian pearl duster earrings. Rees and Anderson also work with longtime clients on custom and upcycled pieces created from old jewelry, like a charm necklace made of cuff links and “odds and ends” a client found in her late father’s dresser. Situated on Ludlow at Rivington Street, the new pop-up is also bound to attract young downtowners who might not be familiar with Ten Thousand Things just yet. “This street is so busy on the weekends!” Rees said in amazement. “That’s what’s nice about pop-ups—you get to meet so many new people in the neighborhood.” Ten Thousand Things is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon-7:00 p.m. through the holidays at 153 Ludlow Street, New York City.
