Vetements’s Gilded Weed Grinders Arrive Following the Legalization of Marijuana in More States

Vogue

Vetements is known for its disruptive fashion, whether it’s the collective’s provocative, expletive-laden hoodies or its decision to scrap the standard show system and present an entirely collaborative collection during couture week. The Paris label’s latest disruption is subtler: Vetements is selling a weed grinder in silver and gold. The piece comes on a chain and is to be worn as a necklace, and it features the brand’s logo prominently on the lid. According to its listing on Ssense, the silver version will set you back $750. The grinder arrives at Ssense and Maxfield in Los Angeles following the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in four more U.S. states: California, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Maine. Of course, Vetements’s functional accessory is far from fashion’s first endorsement of marijuana. Alexander Wang’s Fall 2016 collection featured a plethora of marijuana leaf prints—one dress in the pattern was worn by Margot Robbie when she hosted Saturday Night Live—while vape pens were seen on the Baja East runway. Back in 2012, Jeremy Scott redid the Adidas logo as a pot leaf on a sweatshirt worn by A$AP Rocky and Sky Ferreira, and a decade before that Lucien Pellat-Finet was making his intarsia cashmeres with big, bold buds on the front. Even Vogue has gotten the memo. In 2014 our Food Critic, Jeffrey Steingarten, went in search of delicious marijuana recipes. You can read his results here and then decide if Vetements’s newest accessory has a place in your kitchen—or life.
