Leslie Hindman’s December 2016 Sale Offers Cornucopia of Jewels
Jewels du JourThe final stretch of jewelry auctions for 2016 is under way, culminating with a number of major sales in the next couple of weeks. At Leslie Hindman, the Chicago-based auction house offers a cornucopia of jewels in its December 4-5 Important Jewelry sale, including over 1,400 lots of fine certified colored stones, natural colored diamonds, antique jewels, vintage signed works and an expansive and diverse selection of David Webb jewelry. A selection of fine sapphires are among the major highlights of the sale, led by a 5.05-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring, by J.E. Caldwell, circa 1910 (est. $250,000-275,000). Other important sapphires in the sale include a 12.38-carat Burmese sapphire and diamond ring (est. $180,000-200,000); a pair of cushion cut Burmese sapphire and diamond cluster earrings (est. $10,000-15,000); and an 8.56-carat Burmese sapphire and diamond ring (est. $60,000-80,000). For diamond collectors, the sale offers the rarest color of all – a Fancy Red diamond weighing 0.37 carats (est. $70,000-90,000). The rare stone joins a handful of other colored diamonds emitting hues across the color spectrum.
